PLAY READING NOTICE

Theydon Bois Village Hall

THE UNFRIEND

(to be performed at the Village Hall on 11th - 13th March 2027)

We would be delighted to see you at Theydon Bois Village Hall for a reading of our

March 2027 production ‘The Unfriend’ by Steven Moffat (best known for writing a lot of recent ‘Dr Who’ episodes)

It is the cautionary tale of an ordinary English couple, who go off on a cruise, and

meet a loud American. She is uber friendly, and just a tad right wing.

In the way that friendly Americans do, she invites them to Denver. In the way that overly polite Brits do, they invite her to London whilst entirely not meaning it.

Picture their horror, when not only does she turn up on their doorstep 2 weeks later,

but they Google her in a worried sort of way, to find out she may (or may not) have

poisoned her husband…

The play was a big success in the West End a couple of years ago, and it would be

great to have lots of people to bring it to life.

We are looking forward to seeing you.

2026 Season

Productions for the 2026 season are now in full swing, beginning with some marvellously magical mayhem in the form of Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters, adapted for stage by Stephen Briggs. With a sixteen-strong stellar cast and a fabulously efficient crew, audiences were whisked away to the enchanted Discworld to meet a newly formed coven of witches tasked with saving the kingdom of Lancre from an evil Duke and Duchess, suspiciously reminiscent of the Macbeths...

In a first for the drama society, the matinee performance of Wyrd Sisters was captioned, making the production more accessible for many of our audience members. Very positive feedback was given on this venture and TBDS will be looking at providing other captioned performances in the future.

Our second production of the 2026 season was the tense and dramatic thriller, The Girl on the Train, giving audiences a glimpse into a modern-day world where every character had a secret to hide.

You may have seen our stall at the annual Theydon Bois Donkey Derby, where we were pleased to meet local people and passers by to showcase our drama group. We welcome new members who are keen to become involved in any and all aspects of the Society.

We are looking forward to our Autumn production of Lilies on the Land. Auditions are taking place in the Summer.
