Theydon Bois Drama Society was founded in 1925, and although there was a short suspension during the war years, such continuity in a small community is remarkable.
Over the years the Society has presented a wide range of comedies and tragedies, thrillers, music halls, variety shows and revues, pantomimes and musicals and many people, in their time, have played many parts on stage and back-stage. Our venue has progressed from one of the old Retreats, to the old Army Hut in Loughton Lane, to the Village Hall in Coppice Row and now to the magnificent Village Hall of which the village is so proud.
In the early days membership consisted entirely of local people and more particularly of family groups, but now our membership is drawn from a wider area and we are always keen to welcome new members from Theydon Bois and beyond.
Our theatre is a warm welcoming environment with step free access . From the moment you come though the doors you will be met by our front of house team who will be pleased to help you find your seats. You can buy a programme for each show.
Our fully licensed bar is open before, during and after every show serving a range of spirits, wine, soft drinks and beers and ice cream. We also serve tea, coffee and biscuits during the interval.
We pride ourselves on being able to welcome those with special requirements. There is step free access to the hall and a disabled toilet. The hall is fitted with an induction loop which is active during each show.
Our members are warm and welcoming to anyone joining a cast for the first time, either new to the society or to performing in general. We have a wide range of ages, abilities and backgrounds that make our performances rich and each cast a different experience.
Some of our members have been with us for decades, some for years and some just for a few months. It's fair to say, though, that once you've experienced performing with us, you'll never want to leave!
We offer advertising space in our full-colour programmes.
It is a cost-effective way of getting to hundreds of local people. The pricing at 2020 is as follows:
Full-page (A5 portrait) - £65
Half-page (A6 landscape) - £35
Quarter page -£18
We can produce the artwork or work with your design.
